The Giant Green Chair – Saint Paul, MN

On our latest scooter ride, we made a fun stop at High Bridge Park North to check out the massive Giant Green Chair, a quirky landmark created by artist Joel Sisson. Made of wood and painted a vibrant green, this towering Adirondack chair has an interesting history.

The original chair, built in 1995, first stood at the Walker Art Center before moving here as part of the Green Chair Project, which employed Saint Paul youth to build and sell regular-sized green lawn chairs. Weather eventually took its toll, and the current version—built on November 2, 2002—replaced it. Weighing in at an impressive 2,500 pounds, it’s not just big, it’s huge.

Rolling up on scooters, it made for the perfect photo op—our rides parked neatly in the shadow of this giant piece of local history. Definitely worth a quick stop if you’re cruising through Saint Paul!
